2026 Summer Schedule

Age Groups

Tadpoles

6 & Under w/ no experience

Tadpoles are our youngest swimmers with no prior experience. Readiness to learn and willingness to be in the pool is assessed via a “swim test” at the start of season to determine eligibility to join the team

Floaties

8 & Under w/less experience

Floaties are children with limited swimming ability. They will work on becoming familiar with various strokes, swimming the length of the pool, etc.

Swimmies

8 & Under w/more experience

Swimmies develop a working knowledge of all four strokes. They will build the endurance and strength necessary to compete in a meet.

Guppies

8 & Under w/most experience

Guppies work on being able to swim 3 strokes legally. They begin to master diving from blocks.

Ages 9-10

Increase the knowledge of all strokes and be able to swim all four strokes legally. Be able to dive off the blocks and perform legal flip-turns, including backstroke turns.

Ages 11 & up

Improve competitive swimming technique, dives, flip turns, and overall athletic capabilities. Learning doesn’t stop when you get older!

Practices are Monday-Friday. If a practice time does not work for your swimmer, please let us know and our coaches will do their best to accommodate them in a different practice slot.

Afternoon practices are scheduled to start May 11. Practices will switch to mornings on June 11 when Durham Public Schools let out for summer.

If your child is 8 & under and NEW to the team OR if your child was in the Floaties or Swimmies group last season, please plan to participate in a swim test at 4:45pm on the first day of practice, May 11, or on the first day your child attends practice. Our coaches will evaluate and appropriately place your swimmer.

Practice on Memorial Day (May 25) will be on the morning schedule.

Head Coach Robbie Mohney

Robbie has been a longstanding fixture at Parkwood, demonstrating unwavering dedication to ensuring the success and enjoyment of our team.

More from Robbie:
”This will be my 16th year on Parkwood (8 years swimming and 8 years coaching). My family moved to Parkwood when I was 2 years old, but I didn’t join the team until I was 11. At first, I was not a good swimmer - in fact, during my first few years I was usually close to last place, but the culture and fun of the team brought me back each summer! I continued to swim during the summers, eventually making the Cardinal Gibbons High School team. I was a sprinter and also swam breaststroke and butterfly. I currently coach the Jordan High School swim team (this was my 5th season). Outside of Parkwood, I work in the aesthetics field as a project manager, working on energy based biomedical devices.”

Piranhas Swim Together

We also know life is unpredictable and sometimes families need a hand. Our hope is that participating in a summer swim team is an accessible experience for any child. This is made possible through the contributions of our Piranhas family near and far.
